Everyone gets into real estate investing for one reason: the hefty return. Doing it right can potentially bring in a lot of money, which will let you do pretty much whatever you want. As any expert will tell you, more than doing your homework, it’s also essential that you get help, especially if you’re a first-timer.
Still, a lot of people claim that they can find the road to success faster alone, and then they get confused when they encounter roadblocks along the way. These are some of the reasons why people stubbornly insist on flying solo when it comes to real estate investing.
1. “It can wait; I just got started.”
This is all the more reason why you should get some help. You want to make sure that you can focus on what’s important, and the way that you can do that is by getting someone to do some of the heavy lifting for you. It doesn’t matter if you aren’t closing a lot of deals right now; in fact, if you do get an assistant, you stand to get a lot more deals than if you do it alone.
2. “I can’t afford to get help right now.”
Interestingly, a lot of people spend loads of money attending every seminar on investing and still say that they can’t spare money on getting an assistant. It’s true that you’d be taking a gamble by hiring help when you don’t even know if you’ll be successful, but if you think about it, all business ventures involve risk. Sure, you can save money by doing everything yourself, but you’ll also be losing out on deals that you would have gotten had you not been too busy stuffing envelopes and crossing your fingers hoping that the phone will start ring.
3. “I’d rather not waste time coordinating with anyone.”
Think about it: would you rather spend 10 minutes consulting someone how things are moving along, or an entire hour doing all the work alone? It’s not time wasted if you are sure that things are being done at the same time and not all by you, which is ten times better.
4. “When I do it myself, I’m more confident that things are being done right.”
How confident do you need to be to assign tasks like buying paper clips and folding documents? These tasks can slow down anyone on a mission, and if you are on a mission to succeed in investing, you can focus more time and energy looking for investment opportunities if you’re not tied down by these basic errands.
The Beatles said it best when they sang “I get by with a little help from my friends”. If you want to be successful in Philippine real estate, you’re going to have to learn to delegate.
