For a long time, experts have been preaching about the benefits of homeownership. They talk about how much better buying a property is than renting one, so much so that renters feel like their presence is scorned, pressuring them into buying a house even when they’re not ready.
The truth is that the buying-is-better-than-renting way of thinking is becoming outdated, and not just because people are becoming more aware of the ramifications of rushing into real estate ownership. Renters actually contribute greatly to the development of communities, making their existence as relevant as that of homeowners. Here are some ways that living in a rental house, condo or apartment helps our society.
1. Renters help businesses flourish – Most companies start in the heart of business districts to be right where the action is. Unfortunately, this set-up is not so ideal for those who wish to work for them but live too far. The existence of apartments or condos for rent makes it possible for business to attract young, hardworking employees to help their enterprises grow.
2. Rental dwellings bring vital employees closer to their jobs – Of course all jobs have their place in society, but there are those whose existence is considered to be highly essential in a community, such as medical workers, teachers and firefighters. If these workers are employed in communities where homeownership is too expensive, renting is their only option of getting to work more easily. Without an available condo or apartment for rent nearby, these workers might be forced to work somewhere else, which would be a loss to that community.
3. Renting reduces traffic – Most houses for sale are located in places far from business districts due to their size and the fact that homeowners enjoy having a respite far from the busy city. Unfortunately, this distance causes them to constantly use their cars to get from one point to the other, and this leads to constant traffic congestion. Renting a property closer to your work won’t validate the need to drive everywhere, which can lessen traffic jams.
4. Occupying a rental close to work helps the earth, too – Time and time again, ecological experts have been preaching about the negative impact of car exhaust to the environment. By renting a condo or apartment closer to the places that you go to often like your job, you reduce your use of your vehicle, which lessens your carbon footprint.
Hopefully, seeing the way that renters help a society's growth will not only give them a newfound sense of importance, but will also help initiate improvement in the rules that govern tenancy.
