When deciding to live in an apartment for rent, one of the first things that you have to consider is whether to choose a studio-type or a one bedroom apartment. Whether you are living alone or are moving with a partner, both options have benefits to offer, depending on your wants and needs.
A studio-type apartment is laid out like one large space (save for the bathroom), and it’s up to you how you plan to allot each portion of the room. Some people like to keep the entire room open and simply designate each corner as a living room, a bedroom, a dining room and others. Others prefer to put up dividers to separate the bedroom to create an illusion of a separate room away from the other areas of the unit.
A one-bedroom apartment, on the other hand, is also commonly known as a single apartment. It’s a basic set-up that has a separate room for the bedroom and bathroom, while everything else is an open floor space. Depending on the apartment complex you choose, a unit can also have features like a balcony and some space for storage.
The biggest benefit of a studio apartment is that it’s more affordable than a one-bedroom apartment. Because of its simple layout, it’s much easier to maintain and decorate, which means that you spend even less money doing these activities. On the other hand, the reason for this is that it’s much smaller than a single apartment. Also, you won’t have much privacy in your “bedroom” if you have other people in the unit, unless you set up dividers as walls.
One-bedroom apartments are much bigger than studio-types, which means more space for your things and to move around. Also, having a separate room as a bedroom gives you a sense of privacy, especially if you’re entertaining guests and would rather keep your bedroom closed off. Still, you’ll have to make sure that you’re financially fit to experience these luxuries, since it costs more to rent a single apartment than a studio-type.
If you’re not as financially stable as you want to be, it might be a good idea to rent a studio apartment for now and then upgrade to a one-bedroom set-up later on. In the meantime, make sure that the studio-type you choose is in a great location and offers as many amenities as possible to get the most out of your money.
